Zayed National Museum
The National Museum Of The UAE will narrate the rich history of the land and region, and will tell the story of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, his unification of the United Arab Emirates, and the UAE’s long-standing cultural connections across the world. A museum for the whole community, Zayed National Museum will tell stories inspired by Sheikh Zayed’s strongly held values, and will be a Centre of learning, discussion and exchange.
Sheikh Zayed’s Legacy and Emirati Identity and Heritage
● Zayed National Museum will be the primary institution in the UAE to display material related to the life and achievements of the late Sheikh Zayed.
● Zayed National Museum will tell stories inspired by Sheikh Zayed’s strongly held values, which encompassed a passionate belief in education, conservation, environment, sustainability, heritage and culture – all underpinned by his humanitarianism and strong faith.
● The museum will hold in trust a collection of art and artefacts from the ancient and living cultures of the UAE, Arabia and wider Middle East.
● The museum narrative explores and affirms the essentials of Emirati identity and allows the UAE’s diverse population an opportunity to explore its cultural inheritance.
History of the Land
● The museum will chronicle the development of the UAE and the region from prehistory to the present. The fundamental role of Islam in Sheikh Zayed’s life and the history of the UAE is an important part of the museum’s narrative.
● The museum will provide insight into long-distance transport methods invented in ancient times, which enabled the UAE to develop interconnections across land and sea.
● The museum will actively research the UAE’s history and culture through archaeological fieldwork, archive research and the gathering of oral histories.
